Event Description:You are invited to attend this powerful event and represent Galveston County at the Texas State Capitol on Wednesday, March 6th.
Please RSVP your attendance for this important day at the Capitol as we bring our issues to the forefront of our Texas Legislators. Galveston County Chambers of Commerce will all be represented as we represent our County and items of concern that are common to all of us.
2019 is a critical legislative session for our county and the State of Texas with key topics such as property tax reform and relief, coastal storm surge protection, hurricane disaster relief management, TWIA, and numerous other issues being discussed by the legislature. The Galveston County legislators are working overtime to help push positive legislative for our area and this event will go a long way in showing everyone that we stand behind their efforts.
We will be recognized from the floor of the House of Representatives and Senate, visit personally with Texas Legislators as small teams and have a Texas Gulf Coast reception for our elected officials and staff complete with a seafood feast. This is a great opportunity to have face-to-face time with officials and staff to discuss individual as well as Galveston County agenda items. Details are below.

Team Participation
We will be forming teams of 3 to 4 people to visit members of the legislature. You will be notified of the team you will be visiting legislators with and who your team leader will be closer to the event. Please designate if you will NOT be able to be on a team.
Group Photos and Reception
A group photo on the front steps of State Capitol is being planned. The reception will be at Saengerrunde Hall from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. A detailed scheduled will be sent along with maps of the Capitol.
Tentative Schedule of Events
10:00 am: - Group Picture on the Capitol Front Steps
Picture will include all attendees and members of the Galveston legislative delegation. Picture will be taken at 10:10am
10:30 am: Attendees divide and go to either the House Gallery or Senate Gallery. Half will go to the House Gallery. Half will go the Senate Gallery
7:30am – 11:30am in the Agricultural Museum, Room 1W.14 - Team leads will be able to pick up materials for meetings
8:00 am to 3:30 pm: Meetings with Members of the Legislature
4:00 pm to 7:00 pm: Galveston County Day at the Capitol Reception at Saengerrunde Hall Located at 1607 San Jacinto Blvd
5:30 pm: Welcoming Remarks and Recognitions
If you are traveling on your own
If you will meet the group in Austin, please let Derek know and he will send you an updated schedule of meeting times and places.
If you would like to ride the bus
Bus will leave from the Chamber office, 9702 E.F. Lowry Expressway at 5:30 a.m., arrive at the Capitol at 9:30, and return after the reception at 7:00 p.m. arriving back in Texas City at approximately 11:00 p.m.
There are 54 seats available, so please reserve your space now. There is no charge, however, if you reserve a seat and do not cancel 48 hours before, you will be assessed a $50 fee. The bus was full last year and there was a waiting list, so please reserve early.
